Metal fatigue

slowsculptureJesus, Chuck, what's with all the metal shows lately? That's what I was asking myself, anyway, last night at Danzig's festival tour-show-thing, Blackest of the Black. Educational, I guess: I learned that I kinda like Moonspell, I learned that Dimmu Borgir really is like that live, and I learned what an adult molar looks like.
I think I'm done with all-ages pit shows for a while, though. With exactly the right crowd, it can work great, but I'm kinda sick of being the designated adult for mobs of spazzy, angry junior high kids with no respect for the etiquette of the thing. I'll still be the first one moving, if the music is right, but give me drunk, 300-pound neo-nazis over teenagers any day of the week.
I was hanging out at the show with Ben, who is, among other surprises, a Red Cross volunteer with some pretty exotic CPR certifications. So he played nurse to some of the more unfortunate stompees, last night, and didn't seem at all surprised at the injuries he was seeing. "That's why I stay out of the pit," he said. I would feel pretty old if I heard myself saying that. But damned if I didn't feel like the old guy anyway, last night.
In other news, there seems to have been some sort of election. Well-done, folks.
